   We actually discussed the whole flag issue quite a bit yesterday. It’s JUST a flag, for crying out loud!

   I disagree. It is not “just” a flag. It is the American flag. It is a powerful symbol for country - representing our unity as states and the freedom this country provides us. It may not need an amendment to protect it but it does deserve a certain amount of respect.

   I see. I wish people would just say that Jill’s comments piss me off, rather than blog saying, “SOME people are disrespectful.” Maybe I took it the wrong way, but after following the rant, wondering what the discussion was about, with no links, etc, here’s what I find. I get it. Sorry I don’t read this every day.

   As for the flag, it is JUST a flag. Regardless if it’s the American, the Canadian, Chinese, etc. flag.

   What deserves respect are the people who fought to build this country. The American flag is a symbol of that, but nothing more. It is not something I will worship- call it a throw back to the 10 commandmants, “Thall shall not have any other god but me. Don’t make a graven image to worship.”

   There is a difference between flying a flag, and worshipping it as our end all and be all of life as an American. If you want to be pissed off at people’s stances toward the flag, why not go off on the people who don’t bother to take it down at sunset, letting it fly at night, people who let it touch the ground, people who let it get ripped up by the elements without a care? Perhaps these people see it as a flag, and nothing more. Who knows?

   I apologize if I’m overreacting, thinking that it’s all about me. It’s the chronic symptom of a scorpio musician.
