Pretty much, yeah. If Ullrich or Basso were allowed in this year's tour, I definitely would have bet on one of them.

The tradesports graph for Landis is great, btw. It goes from 80 before the 16th stage to almost zero after and then back to the 80's after the 17th stage.

The head butt is bigger the way that McDonalds serves more burgers. Sure, people may remember it, but who cares?

So, what you're saying is the Americans can only win if doping regs are enforced? I can live with that. ;-)

As impressive as that comeback was, I suspect it will be dwarfed by "the head butt". Also, as a Canadian I have to say that almost any hockey game, even a pick up street hockey game, is of course more exciting than all other sports.

Another fun fact (thanks, SportsCenter): every American win in the tour has come within the last 20 years. The US is #3 in terms of total wins behind France and Belgium.

Well, to be fair, Basso, Ullrich and several other very solid riders were dropped from the tour the day before it started because of a doping scandal. Things likely would have been very different if that didn't happen.

Still, to drop 8:00 in one day and make it all back the very next day is insane. I can't see how any other sporting event this year could even pretend to equal it.

Looks like he won. Geez, seems like Americans have been dominating the tour for the last couple of decades.
